AirGhandi's Review of the AEA Megalodon MK2 F-Series Accessories
The AEA Megalodon MK2 F-Series is a pump-action PCP air rifle in caliber .50 (12.7 mm) with a weight of approx. 5.4 kg and a length of approx. 112 cm. It operates with a dual-tank system: a 480-bar tank with an integrated regulator and an additional 300-bar tank included in the delivery. The energy is limited to under 7.5 joules in the F-version. A 22 mm Picatinny rail is located on top, and the package includes two 12-shot metal magazines as standard.
As part of his work with air rifles and accessories at jabolo.de, AirGhandi examined the Megalodon MK2 specifically to determine which accessories genuinely suit the character of this rifle. The result is a compact but carefully selected setup of three components.
What Makes the AEA Megalodon MK2 F-Series Special?
The most striking feature of the Megalodon MK2 is its caliber: .50 (12.7 mm) is an unusual dimension for an air rifle. However, the pump-action system is at least equally defining for the character of the rifle. After each shot, the forend is moved rearward and then forward again to chamber the next round, enabling a fast shot sequence without a separate cocking lever.
According to AirGhandi, the Megalodon's strengths lie less in classic benchrest shooting and more in dynamic, standing shooting at multiple targets or plinking. In his view, accessories should be aligned with exactly that purpose.
Compared to the first generation, AEA has improved several aspects in the MK2: the new 480-bar dual tank with regulator, the additional 300-bar tank, the optimized front tank for more consistent pressure distribution, and the redesigned, extended over-barrel suppressor. The suppressor partially surrounds the barrel, providing good noise reduction without excessive added length. AirGhandi describes the sound level of the Megalodon MK2 as pleasant despite the large caliber – which is why he would initially leave the factory-fitted suppressor unchanged.
Note on Magazine Capacity According to the Manufacturer
The AEA Megalodon MK2 F-Series is supplied with two 12-shot metal magazines according to jabolo.de. The manufacturer notes that due to the size of the 12-shot magazine, a Picatinny riser may be required when using optics – a point that is relevant when choosing the mount.
AirGhandi's Recommendation: Additional CNC Aluminium Magazine
Even though the Megalodon MK2 already comes with two magazines, AirGhandi sees potential for an additional one: the AEA Megalodon Magazine – CNC - Aluminum - 10-Shot.
This magazine holds 10 shots in caliber .50 and is made from CNC-milled aluminium. According to the product description, the precision feed design ensures consistent feeding – the loading mechanism works counter-clockwise, while the function operates clockwise. AirGhandi highlights the material quality as noticeably superior to basic plastic solutions: solid, handy, and matching the character of the rifle. Anyone planning longer plinking sessions benefits from having multiple loaded magazines ready – swap the magazine and keep shooting.
- Capacity: 10 shots, caliber .50
- Material: CNC-milled aluminium
- Loading mechanism: counter-clockwise
- Function: clockwise
- Applications: training, leisure, and sporting use
The Right Reflex Sight: Anschütz Optics Reflex Pro small (24x17)
For optics, AirGhandi recommends a reflex sight – specifically the Anschütz Optics Reflex Pro small (24x17). His reasoning: the pump-action design and dynamic shooting principle of the Megalodon call for an optic that is immediately ready and does not require precise eye positioning.
The reflex sight has unlimited eye relief, a 24 × 17 mm front lens, and weighs only 42 g. It offers three selectable reticles (dot, circle, or circle with dot), a fine 2 MOA dot, and a 35 MOA target circle. The click value is 1 MOA, with a 100 MOA adjustment range in both elevation and windage. The 7-level brightness control enables use in varying light conditions. The sight is waterproof to IP67 and features an RMR footprint.
AirGhandi particularly highlights the automatic activation by motion: pick up the rifle and the reticle is immediately visible – no button press or menu navigation required. During a shooting break, no further interaction with the optic is needed.
- Front lens: 24 × 17 mm
- Weight: 42 g
- Reticles: dot / circle / circle with dot (selectable)
- Dot size: 2 MOA; circle: 35 MOA
- Adjustment range: 100 MOA (elevation and windage)
- Brightness levels: 7
- Automatic activation by motion
- Waterproof: IP67
- Rail: Picatinny / Weaver
- RMR footprint
- Battery: CR1632
Note: This Anschütz Optics product currently comes with a 10% cashback offer directly from Anschütz Optics according to jabolo.de. Simply upload your receipt at Anschütz Optics after purchase. Terms and conditions of ahg Anschütz Handels GmbH apply.
AirGhandi's Recommendation for the Mount: Scalarworks LEAP/04 Trijicon RMR Mount
For those who want to position the reflex sight higher, the Scalarworks LEAP/04 Trijicon RMR Mount - 1.93" height - SW0420 is a compatible option. The mount is compatible with the RMR footprint of the Anschütz Optics Reflex Pro small (24x17).
The LEAP/04 is CNC-milled from a single piece of 7075-T6 aluminium and weighs 48 g. The optic center sits at 1.93 inches (4.9 cm) above the rail – enabling an upright head position when shooting from a standing position, which AirGhandi describes as significantly more comfortable on a rifle like the Megalodon.
The patented ClickDrive quick-detach system allows tool-free mounting with hand-tight tension only. An integrated spring-loaded ball detent provides recoil security. The mount is designed for high return-to-zero accuracy after repeated removal and reinstallation.
- Material: 7075-T6 aluminium / 4140H steel
- Finish: Type III hard anodized / flash nitride
- Height (optic center): 1.93 inches (4.9 cm)
- Weight: 48 g
- System: Quick Detach (tool-free)
- Rail: MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny
- Compatible with: Anschütz Optics Reflex Pro small (24x17), Trijicon RMR / SRO / RCR, selected Holosun RMR footprint optics
- Origin: USA
The reflex sight (42 g) and mount (48 g) together create an optics setup of approx. 90 g – a very low additional weight for the already heavy Megalodon.
The Recommended Complete Setup at a Glance
Based on his experience with air rifles and accessories at jabolo.de, AirGhandi suggests the following setup:
- AEA Megalodon MK2 F-Series – factory-fitted with over-barrel suppressor, Picatinny rail and two 12-shot metal magazines
- AEA Megalodon Magazine – CNC - Aluminum - 10-Shot – high-quality additional magazine made from CNC aluminium
- Anschütz Optics Reflex Pro small (24x17) – lightweight reflex sight with 2 MOA dot and motion activation
- Scalarworks LEAP/04 Trijicon RMR Mount - 1.93" height - SW0420 – elevated mount for upright head position (optional, depending on personal preference)
AirGhandi would initially leave the factory-fitted suppressor unchanged, as the over-barrel system performs well in his assessment.
